November 28, 2024MANAGEMENT AND DEPICTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL, URBAN AND SPATIAL DATA USING GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS)
Project Summary
The program addressed to twenty (20), graduates of Forestry Departments from all over Greece. Based on the specialized scientific and technological knowledge, the learners were employed as executives in private and public sectors, local authorities and authorities supervised by the public sectors, either autonomously or in collaboration with other scientists. Their job includes study, research and application of science and technology on contemporary or special areas of Forestry, management, operation, protection, development and exploitation of forests and woodlands (sustainable development).
Participants were trained in theory and practice of:
- The introduction and structuring of information
- The organization of geographic information
- The management of data in GIS software
- Exploring data in GIS
- The presentation of data in GIS
- The urban management and spatial information using GIS
- The management of environmental information using GIS
- Basics chartosynthesis
- Chartosynthesis and ways of data visualization
Also practical training of GIS systems in organizations that had implemented and manage GIS applications, such as CREAF and the Instituto Cartográfico de Cataluña (ICC) took place. Personal projects were assigned to the participants.
At the same time during the preparation, beneficiaries were informed about:
- the methodology, content and instructional techniques training incorporating innovative features and operational best practices, tailored to enhance the training of foresters.
- The implementation of ICT in the transfer of knowledge, experience and innovative practices in training
- The link training with business and ways to enhance this relationship
- The methodology for monitoring, evaluation and development of vocational training
- The potential for further self-improvement through training offered by educational institutions in the EU (universities, technical institutes, tourism training institutions and / or social organizations)
- the possibilities offered by EU to fund such programs
- The knowledge, experience and skills that should have a forester to meet the current demands of the labor market.
Training period of the participants took place in Barcelona (Spain) during June 2011 and Center for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF) was the hosting organization.
